In European Equity Markets the pan-European STOXX 600 closed up 1.27 percent, with most major bourses trading sharply higher. Across the board, sectors showed a positive picture with banks, autos, and insurance leading the way. On the corporate side, Eurofins Scientific climbed 7.91 percent, after the laboratory testing group confirmed its objectives for 2018, and extended its organic growth goals beyond 2020. Logitech announced Sunday that it had ceased talks to acquire Plantronics, a U.S. electronics group. Shares of the Swiss manufacturer rose 3.99 percent Monday.

In Currency Markets the pound rose on Monday after the European Union sealed a Brexit deal but the currency’s gains were curbed by doubts about Prime Minister Theresa May getting the agreement through a divided British parliament. The pound traded up 0.3 percent versus the dollar at $1.2852 and traded flat against a resurgent euro at 88.43 pence. The euro gained 0.2 percent against the dollar on Monday on signs that Italy may cut its budget deficit target to satisfy the European Union, and as a rebound in oil prices helped to improve risk sentiment.

In Commodities Markets oil prices rose about three percent on Monday, clawing back some of the previous session’s steep losses, although uncertainty over global economic growth and further signs of increasing supply put a cap on gains. Brent crude futures rose $1.86 to $60.66 a barrel, a 3.2 percent gain. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose $1.44 to $51.86 a barrel, a 2.9 percent gain. Prices on Friday hit their lowest since October 2017 amid intensifying fears of a supply glut. Brent fell to $58.41 a barrel, while WTI fell to $50.15 a barrel.

In US Equity Markets stocks gained on Monday, helped by shares of retailers on expectations of blockbuster sales on the largest online shopping day of the year, and as technology shares rose after taking a beating last week. Shares of e-commerce giant Amazon.com Inc jumped 3.3 percent, while the largest U.S. consumer electronics retailer, Best Buy Co Inc, rose 3.3 percent. All of the 11 main S&P sectors were trading higher and the S&P 500 retailing index rose 2.27 percent. the S&P 500 was up 1.45 percent, at 2,670.66 and the Nasdaq Composite rose 1.72 percent, at 7,058.46.

In Bond Markets Treasury bond prices fell on Monday, driven lower by U.S. equity prices which rose on hopes for a profitable Cyber Monday, and as the possibility of a Brexit deal boosted riskier assets. Across maturities, U.S. government bond yields were up about 2 basis points, with longer-dated yields moving slightly slower, narrowing the spread between two- and 10-year yields since the market open.
