In Currency Markets the pound rose above $1.32 on Tuesday after labor data beat expectations, but investors said doubts that a Brexit deal would be reached at a European Union summit this week would limit the currency’s advance. The currency rose 0.4 percent to $1.3210 against the dollar. It gained 0.3 percent to 87.75 pence against the euro. It is not clear what EU leaders will be able to agree on at a dinner on Wednesday where UK Prime Minister May will give her view of the Brexit talks before they discuss among themselves how to proceed.

In Commodities Markets oil prices fell on Tuesday on evidence of higher U.S. oil production and increasing U.S. crude inventories, but reports of a fall in Iranian oil exports helped to limit losses. Brent crude was down 50 cents a barrel at $80.28. U.S. light crude was 40 cents lower at $71.38. Oil production from seven major U.S. shale basins is expected to rise by 98,000 barrels per day (bpd) in November to a record of 7.71 million bpd, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said.

In US Equity Markets stocks rose broadly on Tuesday, led by technology and healthcare shares, as upbeat earnings from blue-chip companies helped ease jitters over the impact of the ongoing U.S.-China trade war and other global issues on corporate profits. Shares of Morgan Stanley rose 2.5 percent and Goldman Sachs 0.9 percent after the two lenders wrapped up earnings from the top six U.S. banks with better-than-expected quarterly profits, driven in part by higher equities trading revenue. the S&P 500 was up 0.65 percent, at 2,768.68 and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.95 percent, at 7,501.69.

In Bond Markets U.S. Treasury yields were little changed on Tuesday as the bond market settled into a tight trading range in the aftermath of wild swings stemming from worries about inflation and a rout across global equities. The 30-year yield slipped half a basis point at 3.336 percent, which was below the four-year peak at 3.446 percent set last week. Short-to-medium Treasury yields were slightly higher, with the two-year yield at 2.870 percent. The 10-year Treasury yield was down marginally at 3.160 percent.
